If...

If…

If I could have seen the end before, this road would not be traveled…
If I had simply been more true, my life would not be unraveled.
If I had never turned my head, when temptation called my name…
Then you would still be in love with me, and I would be the same.

If wishing could ever change a thing, I would be back in your arms…
But time moves on, and years roll by, and I without your charms.
A fool like me, just didn't see, the treasure at my feet…
And now the price, of that I bear, on nights when I cannot sleep.

I've stood in fields, and cursed myself, with naught but the wind to hear…
And then I fall to knees and pray, and cry my silent tears.
With none to blame, except myself, I live this silent hell…
I wander through the days and nights, a heart within a shell.

If I could have seen the end before, a different path I'd taken…
If I had been wiser in my years, my heart would not be breaking.
If I had never turned my head, when temptation called my name…
Then you would still be in love with me, and I would be the same.
